Photo & Video International Christchurch Retail Concept

To be minimal, to encompass sense and logic to the wide variety of items available in-store. To provide a structured order to those principle products while offering a slight random placement of items thus creating intrigue. No specific brand shall have a dominate identity. This creates an unfair bias amongst brand selection. This unified but semi random placement of display boxes allows for flexibility and a welcoming interesting dialogue with its clients. The goal here is to encounter a balance of a retail  with a home like setting. Trying to hold and maintain the customer. The store will offer a richness that is more than simply a drop in-store.

The core design has fundamental principles that it needs to adhere to successfully obtain its singular vision. These being:

A pure white and timber aesthetic. This creates a warm environment.

A 10mm cork floor floor, white walls, timber joinery and ceiling with rebated track lighting helps frame the space.

A new bench like formation will take pride of place down the centre of the retail section of the store this will provide better circulation and encourage a more open dialect between the customer and staff. These will be fabricated out of timber and steel. Located at the end of each bench will house a jewellery like cabinet. Show casing the very best the photographic industry has to offer. Looking forward - this offers the ability to become teaching hubs for the future possibility of educational evening courses.

The white architectural shelving boxes in the front window are unified but semi-random in their placement allowing for flexibility and a interesting welcoming dialogue with clients. These bookcase like shelving units will be manufactured out of steel with oak ash shelves. 6mm recessed LED lighting covered with an acrylic white strip at the top of each box will allow for each unit to be illuminated providing ample lighting and creating a 3 dimensional depth to each box. Each set of shelves will have a set of draws. These will also be top glazed to protect valuable items.

A unique opportunity lies in a problem that’s been proposed a thousand times to create a retail store with a distinguishing personality and connection that recognises it’s owners along with the staff that have successfully created a business model that helps develop and nurture knowledge of the photographic industry keeping it alive.
