Two refined architectural forms sit confidently side by side, subtly balancing presence and restraint on a compact 450m² Christchurch site. Their careful proportions and alignment create a sense of order and calm, while maximising usability and light. Clad in dark-stained cedar, the home draws inspiration from the textures and tones of nearby Bottle Lake Forest, grounding it in its natural context and creating a strong material connection to place.
Internally, the layout is both simple and flexible — responding to the needs of contemporary living while preserving a sense of architectural clarity. This project represents a fresh take on New Zealand’s residential vernacular — a quiet evolution of traditional form, designed with intent, restraint, and longevity in mind.

Enduring Architecture, Rooted in Landscape
This thoughtfully designed family home in Ashley Forest, Canterbury, responds intuitively to the rhythms of sun, wind, and native bush. Oriented to embrace natural light and seasonal breezes, the home unfolds as a series of warm, adaptable living spaces.
The brief was clear: a timeless home that could evolve with a growing family.
